Learn to swim for kids 5 years and up! 10 different levels to progress gradually.

Red Cross Swim Kids is an accredited 10-level swim program designed for children 5 years and older. At Aquatics Academy, your child will learn how to swim and be safe, while having fun. Even in the early years, our classes promote personal achievement and personal success at every level.

This Red Cross program incorporates both stroke improvment and survival skills. As the levels advance, the objective is to increase distances and stroke efficiency as the swimmer progresses. Beyond that, our focus is always on safety - making safe decisions in the water and always being aware.

The 10 levels of this swim program allow for progressive skills development, as well as water safety knowledge. Swimming strokes are taught at every level, using Red Cross techniques that have been proven over time.  

The team at Aquatics Academy also emphasizes various fitness components that are designed to build physical endurance and encourage personal improvement. Needless to say, swimming for every child should become a lifelong activity - all part of a healthy and well-rounded lifestyle.

Ongoing evaluation and advancement

As a 10-level program, Red Cross Swim Kids entails ongoing evaluation and advancement. Level after level, your child is challenged (as an individual) to go above and beyond. At Aquatics Academy, our skilled instructors use established performance criteria to maintain standards.

As your child progresses, critical feedback is provided, along with the opportunity to practice and improve. All swim classes at Aquatics Academy have a very low student/instructor ratio. We believe that a low student/instructor ratio ensures more personalized learning for each student.

SWIM KIDS LEVEL 1 SWIM KIDS LEVEL 1

Red Cross Swim Kids - Level 1

  • breathing and rhythmic breathing
  • front floating, followed by recovery
  • back floating, followed by recovery
  • front glide for a length of 5 seconds
  • front glide (with kicking) for 5 metres
  • back glide for a length of 5 seconds
  • front swim for distance of 5 metres
  • assisted rollover glides (5 seconds)

Red Cross Swim Kids - Level 2

  • breathing and rhythmic breathing
  • front glide/flutter kick (10 metres)
  • back glide/flutter kick (5 metres)
  • assisted side glide and flutter kick
  • assisted rollover glide/flutter kick
  • front swim for a distance of 5 mtr.
  • assisted flutter kick for 10 metres
  • distance swimming for 10 metres

Red Cross Swim Kids - Level 3

  • front glide/flutter kick for 15 mtr.

  • front swimming (10 mtr. length)
  • kicking drills with flutter kicks
  • distance swimming for 15 metres

Red Cross Swim Kids - Level 4

  • back swimming with shoulder roll
  • front crawl for a length of 10 mtr.
  • kicking drills/flutter kick (on back)
  • distance swimming for 25 metres
  • self-safety along with safe diving
  • introduction to the kneeling dive

Red Cross Swim Kids - Level 5

  • rhythmic breathing (20 repeats)
  • front crawl/back crawl - 15 mtr.
  • whip kick on the back - 10 mtr.
  • kicking drills and flutter kicking
  • distance swimming for 50 mtr.
  • learning to be a safer boater
  • staying warm in cold waters
  • treading water and stride dive

Red Cross Swim Kids - Level 6

  • front crawl/back crawl - 25 mtr.
  • elementary back stroke - 15 mtr.
  • kicking drills and dolphin kicks
  • distance swimming for 75 metres
  • boating safety and safety on ice
  • distressed swimmer recognition
  • throwing an assist without a line
  • treading water in deeper water

Red Cross Swim Kids - Level 7

  • front crawl/back crawl - 50 mtr.
  • elementary back stroke - 25 mtr.
  • front scull and front whip kick
  • distance swimming (150 metres)
  • mild/severe airway obstruction
  • throwing assistance with a line
  • reaching assist/rescue equipment
  • stride entry into a body of water

Red Cross Swim Kids - Level 8

  • front crawl/back crawl - 75 mtr.
  • elementary back stroke - 25 mtr
  • breast stroke (15 mtr. distance)
  • distance swimming (300 metres)
  • danger situations on open water
  • rescue breathing (adult and child)
  • surface dive - feet-first technique
  • shallow dive – standing technique

SWIM KIDS LEVEL 9 SWIM KIDS LEVEL 9

Red Cross Swim Kids - Level 9

  • front crawl/back crawl - 100 metres
  • elementary back stroke - 50 metres
  • breast stroke for 25 mtr. distance
  • sidestroke kicking for 15 metres
  • distance swimming (400 metres)
  • complications of rescue breathing
  • self-rescue (if falling through ice)
  • head-first surface dive technique

Red Cross Swim Kids - Level 10

  • front crawl/back crawl - 100 metres
  • elementary back stroke - 50 metres
  • breast stroke for 50 mtr. distance
  • sidestroke for distance of 25 metres
  • kick drills/dolphin kick (vertical)
  • distance swimming for 500 metres
  • being sun smart/safe ice rescue
  • surface dive and underwater swim
